While it is tempting to spend time planning for the boat, getting the garage done is a necessary first step. Last weekend was more time spent on researching prefabricated kits and getting my head around the planning process. Like any subject, building has it's own vocabulary that helps you be really specific if you know what you're talking about. If you don't know the jargon (in Swedish) though it's an effective way to obscure the meaning...
Anyway.. we have a shortlist of four companies to talk to about what they can do. The 'ideal' size for the plot is 4x6m. Two seem to have that as a standard size - but one of those doesn't offer 'ordinary' doors- just up and overs which we don't want. Of the other two - one doesn't supply the roofing material, beyond the boarding, felt etc. They are, not surprisingly, cheap. Comparing prices though is the tricky bit.. just what is included?
Then there's the base - just what is needed? It looks like an insulated floor is recommended for a 'warm' garage. Sounds reasonable.. Cold ground is going to suck a lot of heat when it is minus twenty outside... Drainage around the outside? A soak-away? Still more questions than answers... Time is ticking on, but I know that the council will be on holiday anyway.
